Letter to cousin

Dear Alli,

I know you are curious as to what I actually do as a public relations representative so I thought I would write and explain to you what I do and why my job is the best.

Everyday I get to interact with people and that is what I love the most. I develop so many new relationships, whether it be with a media reporter, a customer, a community leaders or even a government leader. I get to meet and interact with a wide variety of people both internally and externally. I deal with all the public affairs of the company and that makes my job very important.

It is my job to know all the in's and out's of the company and our products. I also have to know how to communicate and write effectively. I never knew that public relations required so much writing. I find myself writing press releases, speeches, surveys, newsletters, ect. everyday!

The media is so vital to public relations, and because the media changes everyday, that means my job does too. I learn how to problem solve and to think on my feet, which is good. Public relations is the farthest thing from boring and that is why I love my job.

With Love,

McKell

  1. Very true. Different types of interactions is what this profession is about and one must really be ready to work with different parts of the organization to be successful. And as media changes so does the PR profession.

I liked how you emphasized the importance of building relationships. Establishing trust and confidence are paramount in succeeding in a PR profession. I also liked how you described PR as ever-changing and non-boring. Terrific post!
